Levon Ter-Petrosyan Arrives in Karabakh
The Ex-President of Armenia and leader of the Armenian National Congress Levon Ter-Petrosyan arrived in Karabakh. According to Armenian media, he will meet with the leaders of Karabakh separatists.
The purposes of the trip have not been announced.
Ter-Petrosyan was known for his stance on the need for reconciliation with Azerbaijan and agreement on a phased settlement option when the Armenians release territories around Karabakh. However, with the outbreak of hostilities in April, he made an appeal for the consolidation and protection of the interests of Karabakh.
There was also a separate meeting between Ter-Petrosyan and President Serzh Sargsyan on the occasion.
In the current situation Ter-Petrosyan shows a more nationalistic stance than in 1997, when he was ousted because he proposed to adopt a phased plan for the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. -02D-
