Meeting of opposition at the memorial to Mamed Emin Rasulzade (VIDEO)
On 31 January, despite snowy weather the activists of opposition parties and movements held a commemorative event at the memorial of one of the founders of the Azerbaijan People's Republic (1918-20) Mamed Emin Rasulzade. The event was held in the village of Novkhani near Baku, and were confined to the 133rd anniversary of his birth. The protesters were holding posters with the famous dictum Rasulzadeh "People freedom - nations independence."
PFPA leader Ali Kerimli said that Rasulzade thoughts about the importance of the struggle for democracy and human rights are still relevant today.
The head of the party "Musavat" Arif Hajili said that his organization, while remaining faithful to the ideological heritage of Rasulzade, continues to strengthen the struggle for democracy in Azerbaijan. He quoted Rasulzadeh "major honor is not to be a deputy or member of the government, but to remain faithful to their convictions," he said.
"An ugly regime has been established in Azerbaijan today, which is not worthy of the country. This regime wants to make people forget the legacy of Rasulzade and erects monuments to a man that has no place in the history of Azerbaijan, and the youth has proven it," said the leader of the National Center for strategic thought Isa Gambar.
Activists Bayram Mammadov and Gias Ibrahimov (the authors of the graffiti on the monument to Heydar Aliyev) showed the true attitude of the Azerbaijani youth to imposed cults, said Gambar.
Leader of the D-18 Movement, Ruslan Izzetli, noted that Rasulzadeh devoted himself to the independence and freedom of Azerbaijan. "Today we did not come to worship the cult of personality, but on the contrary, to build self-confidence of faith in tomorrow. Looking at Rasulzade, we see our future ", said Izzetli.-36 / 16d-
