"Musavat" calls European leaders to boycott European Games
"Musavat" party called on the Heads of State and Government of the countries of Europe to refuse to participate in the opening ceremony of the I European Games in Baku on 12 June. This call is justified by the unresolved problems with the human rights violations in Azerbaijan and the existence of political prisoners.
The party recalls that last year the party decided that if political reforms are not conducted, and political prisoners are released, the "Musavat" will call on European heads of state to refuse participation in the opening ceremony of the Games.
"Unfortunately, the Azerbaijani authorities have ignored these calls, and on the eve of the European Games the human rights situation deteriorated further: political prisoners were released and politically motivated arrests continue.
By such a gross violation of human rights, refusal to release political prisoners, the authorities create the basis for a boycott of European games by the international community.
Therefore, "Musavat" calls on Heads of State and Government of the European countries not to attend the opening ceremony of the Games," reads the statement of the party.-06D-
