New Leader of Karabakh Separatists
Baku / 15.04.20 / Turan: During the second round of the “presidential election” in Karabakh, Araik Harutyunyan won with 84.5% of the vote, Armenian media reported.
It is known about the new leader that he was born in Karabakh on December 14, 1973. He graduated from the Yerevan Institute of National Economy. For 10 years he was the “Prime Minister” of Karabakh (2007 - 2017), and then for a year as “Minister of State”.
In 2018, he resigned amid mass protests in Karabakh against the policy of the authorities.
From the published biography it is known that Harutyunyan fought against Azerbaijan during the war and has a reward for the capture of Shusha in 1992.
In the postwar years, he worked in the banking sector, was a deputy of the "parliament" of Karabakh, and created and headed the party "Free Homeland". He is considered a person close to Bako Sahakyan and the richest businessman in the region. Harutyunyan controls the production and export of alcoholic beverages in Karabakh.
During the election campaign, Harutyunyan stated that he sees the future of Karabakh as part of Armenia. -02D-
