Number of Approved Presidential Candidates Rises to 13
Baku / 20.02.18 / Turan: On February 19, the Central Election Commission approved the nomination of a candidate for the presidency at the April 11 special elections, Ramazan Alekper Oglu Bekirov.
He is a self-promoted and is not known to the general public. The CEC does not provide the candidate's personal data. However, according to information from the Internet, a person called Ramazan Alekper Oglu Bekirov was unsuccessfully nominated as a candidate for MPs in the 2010 parliamentary elections from one of the districts of Sumgait.
For official registration, candidates must collect at least 40,000 signatures of voters in the territory of at least 60 of all 125 districts. The deadline for accepting signatures of voters expires at 18:00 on March 12.
Thus, the number of candidates nominated by the CEC has reached 13.
* On February 14, the CEC approved the nomination of the current head of state, the chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev, the head of the Liberal Democratic Party Fuad Aliyev, the non-party member of the parliament Zahid Oruj, the member of the Bar Association Anar Umudov, and the head of the White Party Tural Abbasli.
On February 17, the head of the United Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanguliyev, the leader of the National Revival Movement Party Faraj Guliyev, the head of the Social Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Araz Alizadeh, and the leader of the Modern Musavat Party Hafiz Hajiyev were nominated as presidential candidates.
In addition, the self-nomination of little-known candidates Elshan Hasanov and Asif Mammadov was approved. Razi Nurullayev was nominated by the Initiative Front Men Group.
** The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) announced boycott of the elections due to the lack of democratic conditions for their conduct. The Musavat Party and the Umid Party announced that they would not participate in the elections. The Republican Alternative Movement (ReAl), the NIDA Movement and the Movement for Democracy and Welfare declared their not recognizing the results of the elections.-06D--
