Parents of arrested NIDA activists began a hunger strike
Baku/21.04.14/Turan : Sunday at the headquarters of the party Musavat began a hunger strike of the parents of the arrested eight activists of NIDA. They are protesting against the prosecutor's proposal to sentence their sons to long terms of imprisonment ranging from 6.5 to 8.5 years.
The hunger strike is arranged by the mother of Zaur Gurbanly, Sakina Gurbanova, the mother of Rashadat Akhundov, Metanet Akhundova, the mother and aunt of Shahin Novruzlu, Mehbara Novruzova and Nushaba Novruzova. It is assumed that the action will also engage the parents of the other defendants.
They believe that the activists are innocent and are being persecuted for political reasons.
Meanwhile, the defendants themselves have continued hunger strike in prison in the Kurdakhani since April 17.
The young people were arrested in March-May 2013. They are accused of preparing riots at the protest of March 10, 2013 against the non-combat losses in the army.
Recall, Amnesty International has recognized all the accused as "prisoners of conscience." -06D -
