Protection demands to justify human rights defender Bakhtiyar Mammadov
Today Baku Court of Grave Crimes continued the Trial in the case of human rights activist, Bakhtiyar Mammadov, continued today in the Baku Serious Crimes Court. The lawyer Anar Gasimli asked the court to justify Mammadov. The final word of the accused is scheduled for February 19.
Mammedov is charged under the Articles of the Criminal Code: 182.3 (extortion using violence) and 178.1 (fraud). Previoulsy, the prosecutor asked to sentence Mammadov to 12 years in prison.
However, local and international human rights organizations believe that Mammadov has been persecuted for protection of property rights of citizens whose homes were demolished in the Flag Square in Baku, on the eve of “Eurovision.” -06B –
