Baku / 09.04.18 / Turan: Holding the constituent congress of the Republican Alternative Party (REAL) on-line was a forced measure because of the authorities' obstacles, was announced at today's press conference. "The government has closed even the premises that are open to others, but it must understand that the possibilities for democracy are inexhaustible. The will is always stronger than strength," said REAL Executive Secretary Natik Jafarli.
All 250 delegates took part in on-line discussions. "By open voting, we decided to establish a party, approved the program and the charter, taking into account the proposals put forward," Jafarli said.
At the second stage of the congress, on Sunday, April 8, at the headquarters of REAl, elections of the governing bodies of the party were held by secret ballot; 190 delegates took part in the voting. Some delegates temporarily live and study abroad, were on a business trip. Therefore, physically they could not vote.
Taking into account the great authority of Ilgar Mammadov, no one nominated a candidate for the post of chairman and he was elected almost unanimously.
Sixty one candidates were nominated to the Majlis of the party (for 40 seats). Those who received the largest number of votes were elected. Besides Jafarli, Azerbaijani political scientist Azer Gasymli, lawyers Erkin Gadirli, Khalid Bagirov, human rights activist Rasul Jafarov, military expert Jasur Sumerinli and others became members of the Mejlis.
Now the Majlis will form a Board of 11 people for the leadership of the party.
The party stands for the transformation of Azerbaijan into a parliamentary republic and intends to participate in all elections. -06D--
