REAL forms an initiative group "Republican Alternative" for the referendum campaign
REAL Movement formed an initiative group "Republican Alternative" to campaign in the referendum on constitutional amendments. Today REAL will submit to the CEC a notification on the creation of the initiative group with the participation of more than 2,000 voters, according to the organization.
The CEC shall consider the application within five days and to give the initiative a group of forms for collecting signatures of not less than 40,000 voters to register campaign group "Republican Alternative" in the referendum.
Registration of the campaign group allows campaign for or against the amendments on the territory of Azerbaijan, provides free access to television, the possibility of holding meetings with voters in public and private places. Deadline for of signature sheets is 22 August.
REAL intends to campaign against the amendments, considering that they are aimed at strengthening authoritarianism in Azerbaijan.
A referendum is scheduled for September 26. Amendments to the Constitution require the expansion of presidential powers, giving him the right to dissolve the parliament, the appointment of the first vice-president and vice-presidents. In addition, the term of presidency will increase from 5 to 7 years.—06D—

Adalyat Verdiyev, the head of the civil defense staff at the public legal entity Center for Public Health and Reform under the Ministry of Health, and a military expert, has been arrested.
