Residents of Ismailli are accused on the same charges as residents of Guba region
Employees of the Ombudsman Office visited 12 people arrested on the events in Ismailli region on 23-24 January in the Chief Department to Combat Organized Crime (CDCOC) of the Interior Ministry. Two more people, a manager of the "Chirag" hotel and another man are charged with disorderly conduct. All the defendants have been provided with lawyers, reported the employees of the Ombudsman Office, though they did not appear in riots on January 23-24 in Ismailli region.
In turn, the head of the Committee against Torture, Elchin Behbudov, and his assistant Elchin Shirinov, also visited CDCOC’s jail. According to Elchin Behbudov, he met with 12 detainees, including the administrator of the "Chirag" Hotel, Emin Shamdinova and Baku resident, Elmeddin Mammadov. The first admitted his guilt, saying that during the incident he was drunk. As for Elmeddin Mamedov, he does not consider himself guilty. He saw that Shamdinov was attacked, and came to help him.
Behbudov also spoke with residents of Ismailli region. "We examined their bodies, but did not see the signs of beatings. They did not complain about the conditions of detention and treatment," said the human rights activist. -16B04-
