Sergei Lavrov on Results of Vienna Meeting

Participants in the negotiations on Nagorno-Karabakh in Vienna agreed on a ceasefire in the region in the agreement format of 1994-1995. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov after the talks of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia with the mediation of the Foreign Ministers of the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group (Russia, the USA, France) on Nagorno-Karabakh.

"We agreed, and this will be discussed in a joint statement to enforce a truce, a cease-fire in the form in which the agreement was reached in 1994-1995," he said.

The Armenian and Azerbaijani negotiators are set to search for compromises, Lavrov said.

"We have a reason to believe that the Armenian and Azerbaijani negotiators set out to formulate a compromise. We will contribute to this," he said.

Lavrov said that during the meeting it was agreed that "in June, the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia will agree on the time and place of their next meeting, which will continue the work on harmonization of the parameters of a final settlement of the Karabakh problem." -0-
