The Azerbaijani government expects heavy fines by the ECHR
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has started communication on 32 complaints from Azerbaijan, according to the lawyer Intigam Aliyev. On March 21, 2017 the government should respond to the questions. Fifty two applicants are the citizens of Azerbaijan, those who were forcibly evicted from their homes in the city center streets: Samed Vurgun, Shamsi Badalbeyli, Mirzaga Aliyev, Mirza Ibrahimov, Dilara Aliyeva, Rasul Rza, Shamil Azizebekova, Suleyman Rahimov, Islam Safarli, Tabriz Khalil Rza oglu in connection with the construction of park "Winter Boulevard" complex.
Among the applicants are former deputy Hajibaba Azimov, journalist Alireza Muhtaroglu, activist of the "Musavat" Bashhanym Abbasov and others. Starting from 2011, officials of the Baku Mayor Office and the police, put pressure on the citizens, forcing them to leave the apartment for compensation in 1500 manats per 1 sq. m. Those who refused, demanding fair compensation, were subjected to moral and physical pressure, and their houses were demolished despite court decisions to suspend the demolition. However, local courts have rejected all claims of citizens. Referring to the ECHR, the applicants request to declare the violation of their rights under the Articles 1 (right of ownership) of the Protocol No. 1 of the European Convention of Human Rights, Article 6 (right to a fair trial), 8 (right to privacy), 13 (right to an effective remedy protection) and others.
In cases conducted by Intigam Aliyev, raises the question of the violation of the right to the protection of the individual in connection with the seizure of documents according to the complaint during the arrest of a lawyer. Documents were seized during the searches in the office and home of Intigam Aliyev.
The applicants' rights also represent Fuad Agayev, Khalid Bagirzade, Shafa Jamalzade, Sevinj Aliyeva, Samir Agayev and other lawyers. It is expected that the ECHR will collect from the Azerbaijani government large sums of fines.-06b--

On the evening of February 5, it was reported that journalist Shahnaz Beylargizi had been arrested. She had been a presenter on the Toplum TV channel for several years. After a criminal case was initiated against the channel in March 2024 and nearly all of its staff were arrested, Beylargizi was questioned multiple times.
