Vladimir Putin will personally control the Karabakh issue?
Russia and President Vladimir Putin will actively contribute to the achievement of a compromise in the Nagorno-Karabakh negotiations, which should begin in the coming days, reported the Russian newspaper "Izvestia", citing a source in the diplomatic circles. The Russian leader, ready to personally convince the politicians on both sides of the need to compromise, since neither of the parties is ready to concede.
"As soon as it comes to the cessation of hostilities, both sides are willing to sit down at the negotiating table. However, they immediately recall the mutual claims and territorial issue becomes insoluble. Negotiation will be tough, and require the help of Russia," said the same source.
According to him, the Russian settlement plan is to return to Azerbaijan part of the territory, to deploy into the conflict zone peacekeepers, return of refugees and to legitimize Karabakh (that is, to ensure the opening of borders and restoration of economic ties), and then, when the dust settles, to hold a referendum on the region's identity. However, none of the parties want to agree to such a plan, if the result of referendum is not predetermined in their favor.
Previously, during the live broadcast Vladimir Putin promised that Moscow will continue efforts to resolve the Karabakh problem in the framework of international organizations and bilaterally.
"Russia, no matter what anyone said, is interested in this issue, because we want you to work both with Azerbaijan and Armenia," Putin said. -06D--
