White House proposes to cut aid for Armenia by 38%
Baku/11.04.13/Turan-ArmInfo: White House proposes to cut economic aid to Armenia in 2014 by 38%, the Armenian media reported, citing sources in the American Diaspora.
The 24,719 million dollars economic aid to Armenia proposed by the administration of U.S. President is almost half the assistance provided in the previous fiscal year.
At the same time, Washington has kept the balance of military aid to Armenia and Azerbaijan; $600,000 is allocated for international military education and training of Armenia, and through external military funding $ 2.7 million of financial assistance. Total amount of financial assistance to Armenia’s economic, military, and health sector, as well as the strengthening of laws proposed by the Obama administration is reduced by 14%.
The proposals of the Administration does not provide financial assistance to Nagorno-Karabakh, despite the fact that in the past few years, USAID has provided for this purpose 2 million dollars annually. The current level of funding of Nagorno-Karabakh is significantly below trends represented in Congress for many years, including assistance of $ 5 million, included in the bill of foreign aid in fiscal year 2013. -02D-
