Army Victories Provide Spiritual Uplift in Society - Psychologist
Baku / 06.11.20 / Turan: If a war of liberation is domestic, then it causes an emotional upsurge in society, strengthens the patriotic spirit and people forget even about diseases. The person feels more cheerful. At the same time, information about losses, wounded, etc. generates negative emotions. Military analyst and medical psychiatrist Azad Isazadeh said this in an interview with Turan.
How do the war and the COVID-19 pandemic affect the psyche of people?
“Paradoxically, the pandemic before the war had positive results. Quarantines have increased the discipline of people, and they are used to restrictions. Now the curfew, compared to the period of SMS-permissions, no longer seems to people as some kind of serious restriction. We didn’t know that there would be a war, but quarantine, as it were, prepared us for wartime,” Isazadeh said.
At the same time, in wartime conditions, especially in the front-line zone, it is difficult for people to observe the quarantine regime, so the number of infected is growing.
“In general, from a psychological point of view, we were mobilized,” Isazadeh said.
As for the psychological state of society, positive reports of victories at the front are mixed with negative information about shelling of cities. At the same time, people are tuned in so that all sacrifices and hardships are justified.
Do war and pandemic cause anxiety in people, and how to get out of this state?
In general, there is no anxiety or fear in society.
In Azerbaijan, many people have been expecting a war for a long time. Therefore, they have no panic. Of course, there is mourning in the families of martyrs, but even in these families there is a high patriotic enthusiasm.
However, one must understand that any society cannot be emotionally uplifted for a long time. Sooner or later, it may get tired, and the enthusiasm may run out. Therefore, we need to think about it and take action. As long as the army is moving forward, the spiritual upsurge in society will continue, Isazadeh said. –06D-
