James Warlick: Karabakh conflict remains a spot in Europe

«Violence on the line of contact worries us. This conflict is not frozen. Steps to de-escalate the situation are necessary," said the American co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick in an interview with the Armenian service of Radio Voice of America.

Expressing satisfaction with the meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Sochi, he wished that the parties agreed to a cessation of violence.

"We also hope that the parties will avoid harsh rhetoric. Inflammatory statements do not bring to peace. We must put an end to war rhetoric," said Warlick.

He expressed the belief that both Presidents are able to achieve a peaceful settlement of the conflict. "They want to resolve the issue through negotiations, do not want further violence," said Warlick.

Noting the positive impact of the Russian Federation to resolve the conflict, Warlick pointed out that the sale of Russian weapons to Azerbaijan creates no problem.

He expressed confidence that Russia wants to see peace and stability on its southern border.

Does the Karabakh conflict not look small against major conflicts in the world?

In answering this question, Warlick said, "Our goal is whole, free and peaceful Europe, and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains a blot on the map of Europe." -03D-
