Absheron District Court today rejected a defense motion to replace the arrests of Nigar Yagublu, the member of the youth organization of "Musavat" party, Nigar Yagublu to another form of sanction, not related to the detention, Turan was told by Novella Jafaroglu, head of the society to Protect Human Rights.
She is accused of a traffic accident on August 25, as a result of which, a member of Mejlis of “Musavat” party, Aydin Ajalov died. According to investigator, the girl was driving without a license "Peugeot" car belonging to Ajalov; the car collided with "KamAZ" on the road Baku-Shamakhi. On September 11 the Absheron district court passed a ruling to detain Yagublu for two months, despite the fact that the family members of the deceased have no complaints against Yagublu.
Defense considers the decision to arrest Yagublu is unreasonable, because it does not evade investigation. Moreover, in practice, women n in Azerbaijan are rarely accused of road accident, because it is contrary to the national mentality, said the lawyer Adil Ismailov.
However, the court rejected the defense's arguments.
Human rights defenders and opposition activists said that the arrest of Nigar Yagublu is politically motivated, and demand her immediate release. -05B06-
