Activists of civil society suggested the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to arrest them
Baku/31.05.18/Turan: More than one hundred prominent representatives of civil society, lawyers, journalists, politicians appealed to Interior Minister Ramil Usubov in connection with the arrests of participants of the festive procession on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijani People's Republic on May 28 in the center of Baku.
Those arrested were charged with "unaddressed foul language", "blockage of streets", "not subordinating the police" and other violations on the streets of the capital.
"We do not doubt the contrariness of these accusations, and in fact, they were arrested for participating in a celebratory event," the appeal says.
The authors of the appeal sarcastically note that if celebrating the 100th anniversary of the APR, walking with the tricolor flag of Azerbaijan, remembrance of the memory of the founders of the first republic is an administrative offense, then let them be held accountable "for their love of the flag, values and founders of the APR."
The petition was signed by the head of the National Council of Democratic Forces Jamil Hasanli, members of the Mejlis of the REAL Party Natig Jafarli and Ekrin Ghadirli, journalist Khadija Ismayilova, human rights activists Intigam Aliyev and Anar Mammadli and others. --06D --

The COP29 conference concluded in Baku, leaving behind a trail of controversy and criticism. Renowned historian Jamil Hasanli characterized the event as a vivid reflection of governance problems in Azerbaijan under President Ilham Aliyev. Hasanli, a staunch critic of the administration, described COP29 as an expensive spectacle that exposed systemic failures and intensified international scrutiny of Azerbaijan's political and economic structures.
