Appeal of Javid Shiraliyev Dismissed
The Ganja Court of Appeal after multiple transfers, January 18, considered the complaint of the editor of the portal 7gun.az Javid Shiraliyev, sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.
The court dismissed the complaint. The defense did not agree with the decision and intends to file an appeal to the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan.
Recall that the 7gun.az editor Javid Shiraliyev was sentenced on May 22, 2016 by the Court of Grave Crimes in Ganja on charges of extortion by threats (Articles 182.2.1 and 182.2.4 of the Criminal Code)
Shiraliyev was detained by the Ministry of Internal Affairs on August 30, 2014 and accused of the alleged fact that in collusion with Asif Orujov in June 2013 he extorted AZN 2,000 from Shafiga Khankishiyeva by threatening to circulate compromising material about her and her café in the village Govlar of the Tovuz region.
It should be noted that at the end of December 2012 Javid Shiraliyev was persecuted after he handed to the media information about the violation of rights of the poet Bakhtiyar Hidayat on the Red Bridge on December 23.
The lawyer Zabil Gahramanov told Turan the court could not prove Shiraliyev’s guilt, and all the evidence is based on the statements of one person - Shafiga Khankishiyeva, who has problems with the justice system.
The Institute for Peace and Democracy, the Alliance Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners and the Monitoring Center for Political Prisoners have included Shiraliyev in the list of 160 political prisoners in Azerbaijan. -06D-
