Armenian Catholicos elected head of the World Council of Churches
Catholics of All Armenians, Ghareghin II was elected Chairman of the World Council of Churches (WCC), the press service of Echmiadzin stated.
During the last day before the South Korean city of Busan meeting of the 10th Assembly of the WCC, Ghareghin was unanimously elected as the head of this international institution for eight years.
The presidium of the WCC includes eight people. The mission of the President of the World Council of Churches is encouraging interfaith and ecumenical relations, human rights, justice and peace.
The World Council of Churches was founded in 1948. It consists of about 350 Christian churches in more than 100 countries worldwide. -02D-
