Azerbaijan has developed training programs in the field of new media
For training in on-line journalism, the Ministry of Education and the NGO Multimedia Center have developed a training program New Media.
Preparation and publication of programs have been implemented under the project: "Improving teaching new media in higher education" implemented by Multimedia Center and the American NGO IREX with the support of the US-Azerbaijan Fund for Media Development at the U.S. Embassy.
The head of the media programs IREX-Azerbaijan Angela Nicoara said that the development of new media is a priority for IREX in Azerbaijan. The developed training programs are targeted at both teachers of journalism schools and students.
The curriculum developer, head of Multimedia Center Osman Gunduz said that Azerbaijan developed a market of new media: on-line TV and radio, news feeds, and online versions of print media. To work on these resources students should be educated in on-line journalism.
The training program New Media consists of 5 parts. "Introduction to New Media" is mandatory for all students. Furthermore, students may choose to select the following: "Multimedia Journalism" (to work on on-line TV and radio), "On-line journalism" (for print journalists) and "Social Media." According to him, the latter option is demanded by business entities.
The project, at 9 universities established on-line lab where students can prepare multimedia materials.
Deputy Education Minister Gulu Novruzov said that the training program New Media is officially approved for teaching in schools of journalism.
This is only the beginning and the planned publication of manuals, translation into Azerbaijani relevant literature.
A new media specialist from IREX-Azerbaijan Ulviya Asadzadeh reported that rates of New Media and journalism as a whole can be trained on-line through the web resource http://az.irexlearning.org. Among the professionals providing knowledge on new media, there is a famous American journalist David Brewer.
International expert Vitali Radsky reported about foreign experience of teaching "new media." In the U.S., the training is conducted in higher schools for 15 years. However, this study is not available to everyone. Therefore on-line learning methods are developed. One of these resources is a popular www.canvas.net.
