Azerbaijani Athletes Win Three Medals at European Games on June 15
Azerbaijani sportsmen won three medals - a gold medal and two bronze medals - at the European Games on June 15. Maria Stadnik won in the finals of women's wrestling in the weight category 48 kg, defeating Eltza Yankova from Bulgaria and becoming a champion of the Games.
In the female fight in the weight category of 55 kg the bronze medal was won by Natalia Sinishin. The bronze medals in gymnastics competitions were given to the Azerbaijan trio, Oleg Stepko, Peter Pahnyuk and Eldar Safarov.
Thus, on the basis of 4 days of the Games the Azerbaijani national team has won 16 medals (7 gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze). In the medal standings Azerbaijan is at the second place. At the first place is Russia (9-2-4), while the third place belongs to Turkey (4-2-6). - 06D--

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), on a Baku–Grozny flight, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Aktau, Ayxan Suleymanlı, stated that the plane had 67 people onboard, including crew members, 38 of whom died. According to him, 26 of the deceased were Azerbaijani citizens.
