Baku hosts international conference on cybercrime

Cybercrime and the fight against it at the international level, national strategies, methods of protection when  under cybercrime  and other topics were discussed at the  two-day international conference opened in Baku  on  April 13. The event was organized by the OSCE Office in Baku jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan with the support of the United States and private companies. The conference entitled "National Security in the Information Age", was attended by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator, after the US and Turkey, Charge d'Affaires of Estonia, as well as international experts, government representatives of Azerbaijan.  The OSCE Project Coordinator Alex Shakhtakhtinski reminded that there are more than 3 billion Internet users in the world  who use the World Wide Web for various purposes. At present, the important question is the protection of information banks, large companies, business structures, as well as private information, he said. In this sense, cyber attacks are becoming more serious threat and require an active response from the international community.

The Head of the International Security Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Gaya Mammadov, said that in cyberspace must respect the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty. However, in this matter there is no consensus, and international rules that are needed. The US Ambassador Robert Sekyuta noted the danger of international cybercrime when criminals skillfully use the latest scientific achievements. All this creates a serious threat to national security, and the United States are regularly confronted with this.

Ambassador of Turkey Alper Joshgun noted that cyber security is declared one of the priorities of NATO.
