Civil society demands release of Anar Mammadli
The Civil Society Forum of the Eastern Partnership of the EU issued a statement condemning the arrest of Anar Mammadli - the head of the Election Monitoring and Learning Democracy Center.
The statement authors recall that two weeks after the presidential election the Center underwent a tax audit , which gives every reason to believe the arrest was politically motivated.
The National Platform appreciates the work of Anar Mammadli, calling his organization "authoritative" in the civil society in Azerbaijan and abroad.
In Azerbaijan the Center led monitoring of 12 elections and organized more than 600 training sessions. The Center is a member of the European network of 22 NGOs from 17 OSCE member countries .
The Center's representatives participated in the international election observation mission, tracking the elections in many countries. the authors of the statement called absurd the accusations against Anar Mammadli and demanded his immediate release and stop of the persecution.
The statement is an appeal to the authorities to understand that political arrests deal a blow to the image of Azerbaijan. -05D04-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony.
