Correspondent "The Guardian" and a number of other journalists are not allowed to Azerbaijan
The correspondent of the British newspaper "The Guardian" Owen Gibson was not issued accreditation to cover the European Games in Baku. Because of this, he could not come to Azerbaijan.
According to "The Guardian," Owen applied for accreditation in January, and then booked tickets and received confirmation on 5 June, the Operating Committee said that the authorities are still considering an appeal by Owen.
As a result, in the morning on Thursday, and three hours before departure, Owen received no reply to his appeal, and therefore could not arrive in Azerbaijan.
According to the newspaper, the failure could be due to Owen's trip to Azerbaijan in December last year and the preparation of material on the European games, as well as the facts of suppression of freedom of speech and expression in the country. Gibson also met with journalist Khadija Ismailova, who was soon arrested.
It became known from informed sources, the government has denied several journalists, including an employee of the Azerbaijani service of BBC. -06D-
