Court Extended Arrest of Bayram Mammadov (Video)
The Khatai District Court of Baku today extended the arrest of the NIDA activist Bayram Mammadov, accused of drug trafficking on a large scale, for another 2 months (until November 11). The lawyer Elchin Sadigov told Turan.
The lawyer said the court’s decision was unreasonable. ‘The investigation motivated it by the need for a confrontation between Mammadov, the police officers and the witnesses,’ Sadigov said.
Mammadov has been in jail since May, and the investigation had sufficient time for such a confrontation, but this was not done, the lawyer said.
Giyas Ibrahimov and Bayram Mammadov are accused of drug trafficking on a large scale. However, they reject the accusation and say they were arrested in connection with the graffiti made on the monument to Heydar Aliyev: ‘Congratulations on Slavery!’ and ‘Down with the System!’
The case against Ibrahimov has already been submitted to the court. When asked about the reason for the "differentiated approach" to the activists, the lawyer said this was the case even during the time in jail, when Mammadov was not allowed meetings for long. The lawyer believes that such an attitude to Mammadov is due to the fact that he firmly withstood the pressure and ‘did not apologize.’ -03B-
