Displaced People Protest in Khirdalan
On February 7 in the Khirdalan town located near Baku, IDPs did not allow the installation of meters in the dorm of the Planning and Accounting College, where they settled in the early 1990s.
Prior to February 1, 2017 by the order of the President of Azerbaijan, IDPs were exempted from the payment for gas, electricity and water. Now these benefits are replaced by a monthly allowance in the amount of 36 manats.
"This money is not enough for us to pay for the electricity that we use for heating rooms and cooking," the IDPs said to the authorities and the police that arrived at the dorm.
"We need Karabakh, and not beggar sums of money," "The government gives free gas to Armenian churches, and sells it to IDPs for money," they said.
As a result of the two-hour action, representatives of the electricity company Azerishyg went away. The installation of meters was postponed.
Protests of IDPs are observed in various places. On the same day they also protested in the village Garachukhur in Baku. -0--
