Elchin Mammad can be prosecuted for defamation
Two lawsuits have been filed against the head of the NGO "Legal Education of Sumgait Youth", a human rights defender Elchin Mammad for defamation and insult. Both suits have been filed by citizen Aygun Amiraslanova. The journalist believes that actions can be initiated by law enforcement authorities in connection with his human rights activities. The charges are due to an article in the newspaper "Yeni Musavat" on March 31, 2016.
Amiraslanova in an interview with this newspaper made offensive and defamatory statements about the singer Nurlan Kerimov. "As the legal representative of Nurlan Karimov, I expressed on his behalf his attitude to the words of Amiraslanova," Mammad said. Amiraslanova in an insulting manner discredited singer insulting his honor and dignity. In this regard, against Amiraslanova was filed in the Nizami court.
In turn, Amiraslanova sued in Sumgait and Surakhani courts. In Surakhani court was held a preparatory meeting. However, at the request of Mammad, the trial was postponed to June 16. The Sumgayit Court held a preparatory meeting on 14 June. In addition, Amiraslanova complained of Mammedov to the 24th police department of Nizami district of Baku too.
Mammad reminded said that the claims against him have been filed some time after last month he won a court case against the General Directorate for Combating organized crime Ministry of Internal Affairs in connection with the ban on leaving the country.
