The decision to arrest the financial director of the newspaper Azadlig has been filed an appeal, Azadlig reported. In a few days the complaint will be considered.
Amirov was detained on August 20 and two days later the Nasimi District Court of Baku chose against him a measure of restraint in the form of arrest for 3 months.
The Investigation Department on Grave Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office indicts Amirov under articles 168.1 (infringement of the rights of citizens under the pretext of performing religious rites) and 283.2.2 (incitement of national, racial or religious hatred by a person using his official position).
The investigation alleges that he was seized literature and disks associated with the Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen. In addition, according to the investigation, Amirov is allegedly a member of the movement Hizmet led by Gulen.
The defense considers the accusations fabricated and politically motivated. According to the lawyer, the books and discs were planted in Amirov’s car after his arrest. On the other hand, these books are not banned in Azerbaijan.
The international organization Reporters without Borders has condemned the arrest of Amirov, urging his release. -06D--
