Headquarters "Kura": verdict against I.Amiraslanov is an order
Headquarters civil society "Kura" condemned the conviction two days ago in Sabirabad a local activist Ilham Amiraslanov. The statement noted inconsistency of charges of illegal possession of weapons, and the subsequent conviction for two years of imprisonment. "The accusation was fabricated, a pistol and ammunition were planted to him," the statement said.
Preliminary investigation was biased and after detention, Amiraslanov was tortured. At trial, no defense witnesses were questioned, and the video was not reviewed. The court did not conduct an objective investigation, and journalists were not admitted to the trial, the statement reads.
Amiraslanov has been illegally convicted for his active civil position, according to the headquarters of the "Kura". His arrest is to intimidate people and keep people from fighting for their rights.
Amiraslanov actively advocated for the rights of people affected by the floods in the rivers of Kura and Araz in spring and summer of 2010. He demonstrated integrity and uncompromising attitude to the facts of misappropriation of funds allocated for flood relief and compensation to citizens.
In conclusion, the headquarters "Kura" demanded a revision of an unfair court ruling against Amiraslanov and his immediate release. -05D06-
