Health of Afghan Mukhtarly worsened
Baku/22.04.19/Turan: The health of the journalist Afgan Mukhtarly, who is serving a prison sentence, has deteriorated. He has severe pain in his eyes, and he phoned and told about it his wife Leyla Mustafayeva.

According to her, the penitentiary service has never conducted his medical examinations, although Afgan also suffers from diabetes and hypertension. "Afgan is still taking medicines prescribed by a doctor even when we were in Georgia," the spouse notes.
If something happens to Afgan, then the responsibility will fall on the country's leadership. She recalled that the authorities did not confess to the abduction of Mukhtarly from Georgia. "But, if something happens to him here, then you will not be able to disclaim responsibility," she notes.
Investigative journalist Afgan Mukhtarly was abducted in Tbilisi in May 2017 and secretly transferred to Azerbaijan, where he was accused of smuggling, illegal border crossing, and use of violence against a border guard and sentenced to 6 years in prison.
The arrest of Mukhtarly was condemned by the European Parliament and international human rights organizations. Amnesty International recognized him as a "prisoner of conscience." - 06D--
