Human rights activists about the arbitrariness of officials, police and judges
A group of members of the working group on Human Rights held a press conference today, which sharply criticized the executive and judicial power in the country. Novella Jafaroglu, Saida Gojamanli, Saadet Bananyarly, Eldar Zeynalov, Sahid Mammadov and others have expressed serious dissatisfaction with the state of affairs in the field of human rights and freedoms in the country.
The head of the Society for Women's Rights Novella Jafaroglu reported an increase in citizen complaints against government officials and law enforcement officers. Complaints relate to a wide range of issues, from social unrest to the police treatment of citizens, Jafaroglu said.
At the same time, she noted that the focus of human rights defenders focused on the problem of political prisoners. At the same time, problems of thousands of citizens facing illegality remain unnoticed behind the issue of political prisoners. Jafaroglu also pointed to the problems in the sphere of social protection.
Sometimes the targeted social assistance to single mother is assigned under the conditions of refusal from the half of the annual allowance.
"It's a shame," said Jafaroglu. She also criticized the test examination system for admission kids in the first grade of secondary school. Where kids should have to acquire knowledge for the exam, if most of them do not have access to preschool institutions, she protested. Jafaroglu also criticized the lack of access to quality health care. So, in private clinics prices have been set for basic surgery.
Regarding the work of the police, she noticed that the citizens are humiliated, insults and beatings. There sometimes even cases of death in police, she said, calling for reforms in the system.
Particularly was touched upon the restriction of NGO activities. Due to lack of funding, many NGOs are forced to suspend work. "Donors are not allowed to work in the country. NGO activities is limited, and no ways to solve the problem can be seen ", - she said.
In connection with the highlighted problem the human rights activists decided to turn to Fuad Aleskerov, the head of department for work with law enforcement agencies of the presidential administration.-05C06--
