Human rights activists consider the defendants in the Nardaran case are "prisoners of conscience "

Political Prisoners Monitoring Center issued a statement in connection with the trial of the leader of the  "Muslim unity" Movement  Thale Bagirzade, and other 17 defendants in Nardaran events. "The trial of the faithful  is taking place with gross violations of the law," reads  the  statement. Thus, despite the testimony of the accused on  torture against them and the statements of their lawyers or the court or the prosecuting authorities took no action to investigate these complaints.

"The role of lawyers in the process is minimized: their complaints and petitions are not accepted, necessary expertise are not assigned,"  reads  the statement. At the same time, it is unreasonable  that the APFP deputy chairman Fuad Gahramanli, which has no relation to the events in Nardaran was brought to trial.

Political Prisoners Monitoring Center points to a violation of the presumption of innocence of the accused by the police, Article 3 of the Convention to protect human rights, "Prohibition of Torture", Article 6 - "The right to a fair trial" and 13 - "The right to an effective remedy," said a statement Political prisoners monitoring Center.

Referring to the above noted  the Political Prisoners Monitoring Centre stated that the prosecution of these individuals has no legal basis, and in the event of conviction, they will be considered "prisoners of conscience".

Political Prisoners Monitoring Center was established in October 2014 by  a group of former "prisoners of conscience". The  organization is  headed by  one of the activist Elshan Hasanov.
