Iranian Television Reporter Reduced Sentence
The Baku Court of Appeals, chaired by Abid Abdinbekov today considered the appeal of the journalist, Anar Bayramli, of Iranian TV’s Baku office.
Eldar Bayramli, the journalist’s brother, told Turan that the court partially granted the appeal, reducing the sentence from two years of imprisonment to one year. According to him, his brother had asked the court for full rehabilitation.
Bayramli was arrested in February on charges of drug possession, an accusation denied by the the journalist, who believes he is being persecuted for professional journalism.
Bayramli prepared reports for various Iranian television channels, including the satellite channel Sahar 2, which often criticizes the authorities of Azerbaijan and broadcasts to the opposition. -16/06C-

During search and operational activities, on January 30 at 11:20, 16.4 kg of drugs were discovered and seized in the area of the "Geytapa" border post, located on the Iran-Azerbaijan border. According to the Azerbaijan Border Service, this prevented an attempt to smuggle into Azerbaijan 11.3 kg of marijuana, 5.1 kg of opium, and 1,990 methadone M-40 pills from Iran.
