Landslide Stops Water Flow into Jeyran Batan Water Reservoir

Baku / 14.09.18 / Turan: As a result of a landslide at the 69th km of the water canal, through which water from the reservoir Takhta Kerpu enters the reservoir Jeyran Batan, the water flow through the canal has been temporarily suspended.

Turan reports the landslide occurred in the Khizi district on the morning of September 13.

The displacement of large masses of soil led to the failure of concrete slabs, and the water moving along them began to wash away the base of the mound. A few hours later, streams of water washed about 30 meters of the mound.

The cause of the landslide is not yet clear. Specialists work and construction equipment is used on the site.

The water supply through the canal is temporarily stopped. As for providing the capital with drinking water, experts say that the available water supplies in the main storage of drinking water, Jeyran Batan, are sufficient to supply the city within a month. As for the repair work, it can be completed within a week.

The main issue in this situation is why the recently constructed canal has become unusable without obvious reasons.

* The reservoir Takhta-Kerpu was built several years ago in the Shabran district of Azerbaijan and became part of the project of reconstruction of the irrigation system Samur-Absheron.

The total area of the reservoir Takhta-Kerpu is about 9 square kilometers, and the volume of water is 270 million cubic meters.

The reservoir is considered to be the highest and largest in Azerbaijan. -02B-
