Lawsuit on beating I. Nasibov never filed

So far, no criminal investigation has been commenced into the brutal beating of the human rights activist Ilgar Nasibov in Nakhchivan on August 21.

"The Nakhchivan Police Department continues administrative investigation,” said the wife of the human rights activist, Malahat Nasibova. The results of forensic examination on August 25 were not submitted to her.

"MIA of Nakhchivan states that Nasibov was drunk and got into a fight with a friend. However, no check on the use of alcohol by Ilgar was held on the day of the beating or after that.

The medical conclusion on August 21 reads there was nothing saying that he was drunk.

On that day, all the time I was there with Ilgar, and he was not drunk. Therefore, the information from MIA Nakhchivan is a lie and slander," said Malahat Nasibova.

She also denied the information of the Ministry of Internal Affairs about Farid Asgarov, who allegedly had a fight with Ilgar.

"The Interior Ministry initially called Farid Asgarov an opposition member, and then states that he supports government.

Farid Asgarov voluntarily participated in the activities of the opposition in our office. Therefore, there is reason to believe that Farid Asgarov acted on a tip and order of the authorities. He wormed his way into trust, and then called Ilgar allegedly on an urgent matter. The Nakhchivan authorities can force a person to go for such a trick, and the like has happened many times.

"They can get doctors to write anything, and so to leave Ilgar in hospital was dangerous. They could just poison him. Given this, I carried Ilgar home. As soon as he gets better, I will take him for treatment to Baku," she said.

Malahat Nasibova noted that beating Ilgar made very bad impression on their three children, who are studying in Norway.

The children are in severe depression and they have moral support from their fellow students and teachers. -03B04-
