Media Review - December 25, 2018
The social policy of the state, the results of the year 2018 - the "Year of the Republic", and the problems of the master degree studies are the leading topics of today's media.
The Azerbaijan newspaper writes about the social policy of the state against the background of yesterday"s provision of a new residential complex for IDPs by President Ilham Aliyev. 1,000 families that is 5,000 people received new apartments. Thus, the number of towns for IDPs, opened thanks to the policy of President Ilham Aliyev, has reached 101. About 60 thousand families or 300 thousand people live in them. At the opening, the President said that housing will be built for another 1,900 families. The article says that over the past 10 days, 394 apartments were issued to the military, 25 to athletes, and 1,419 apartments to IDPs.
The website Azadliq.info talks about the memory of 2018 - "Year of the Republic", and about the related events. The author believes that this year was a chance for the development of a multi-party system, the release of political prisoners, ensuring freedom of speech, expression, media and assembly, and holding democratic elections. However, according to the author, the year 2018 was a year of missed opportunities. State measures were imitative in nature.
The website Modern.az writes about the problems of master's education, its compliance with international standards. In Azerbaijan, studying for a master's degree is pointless - this is often said. The graduate course is the second stage of higher education. This learning process should provide freedom of creativity, a high level of specialization, which is not the case in Azerbaijan. Many students complain that the disciplines for which they studied at the undergraduate level are included in the master"s degree course. However, expert Kamran Asadov notes that this is in state higher schools, and in private universities, the situation is somewhat different. In state higher education institutions, provision of additional hours for teachers at the expense of funds allocated from the state budget is put at the forefront. The expert believes that it is necessary to use the world experience. -0-

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
