Reserves of fresh water, interruptions of gas supply to the population, and acceptable world oil prices are the leading topics of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the reserves of fresh water and the prospects of this issue. According to the UN estimates, the deficit of fresh water in 2010 was 225-230 billion cubic meters, and in 2025 this figure rose to 1.3-2 trillion cubic meters.
Azerbaijan belongs to countries with a limited supply of fresh water. Groundwater reserves are 32.2 billion cubic meters. In dry years, this figure is reduced to 22.6 billion cubic meters. Underground water reserves amount to 5.2 billion cubic meters.
Reservoirs with a capacity of 640 million cubic meters of water remained in the territories of Azerbaijan occupied by the Armenians. In comparison with 1960-1990, water reserves in the rivers Kura, Araz and Ganykh decreased by 30%.
By means of these rivers, only 12-15 cubic kilometers of water enter the territory of the country. To ensure the country's water security, it is planned to dig 300 sub-artesian wells, 175 of which have already been commissioned.
Over the past 15 years more than 2 thousand sub-artesian wells have been commissioned, and reservoirs of Takhtakorpu, Shamkirchay, Tovuzchay and Goytepe have been built.
The Novoye Vremya newspaper writes about frequent disruptions in the supply of gas to the population.
According to experts, at the moment production is not keeping pace with exports, which is the reason for the shortage of gas.
Specialists note that Azerbaijanis also face this problem because of a number of greenhouse farms and other businesses, where large, sometimes unaccounted volumes of gas are supplied.
But the main reason for the deficit is a drop in production.
The Yeni Musavat newspaper writes about rising oil prices.
The head of Total Patrick Puyanne believes the price of oil will jump to $ 100. He believes this is not very good, since it can reduce the demand for oil. -0------
