October 18 is the Day of State Independence, and therefore it should be a festive day off, as well as the rise in Russian interest in education in Russian are the leading topics of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the Independence Day, which is celebrated on October 18. The author goes down in history, recalling that on October 18, 1991 at the session of the Supreme Council it was announced that Azerbaijan had acquired independence on the basis of the Constitutional Act on the State Independence of the Azerbaijan Republic. In the article, the first three years of independence 1991-1993 are evaluated as a period of negative political processes that questioned the ideas of the people about freedom. The author claims that, coming to power, Heydar Aliyev saved the situation, thus, state independence was protected. True independence begins not from 1991, but from 1993, the article says.
The website Modern.az also writes about Independence Day - October 18. The author recalls that October 18, from 1992 to 2006, was a non-working day. In December 2006, amendments were made to the Labor Code of Azerbaijan, according to which October 18, November 12 - the Constitution Day, and November 17 - the National Revival Day became workdays, although they are festive. They are not met definitely. The author proposes that October 18 should again become a non-working day. This issue has been raised more than once in parliament, but the decision has remained unchanged.
The website Bizimyol.info writes about increasing interest in education in Russian. In order to increase interest in education in the Azerbaijani language, it is necessary to improve the quality of education. Currently, teaching in Russian is carried out in 340 schools throughout the country, and 90,000 pupils study in Russian. -0----
