Ministry of Emergency situations (MES) and irrigators boycott courts
The Administrative Economic Court of Shirvan city held a hearing on the claim of a group of people affected by flooding in 2010, against the Ministry of Emergency Situations(MES), Land Reclamation and Water Resources, as well as local authorities.
Claims of six groups of citizens were considered, 42 people from Saatli, Sabirabad, Imishli, Kurdamir and Salyan regions.
Court hearings chaired by Elkhan Amiraliev, Fikret Mehdiyev and Ikhtiyar Abushova were held without the participation of respondents who ignored the hearings.
The plaintiffs complained about the actions of the MES, which offers inadequate compensation for the damage suffered, in particular, for the loss of housing and agricultural lands. Plaintiffs also insist on payments by the JSC Reclamation and Water Resources, which illegally used their land for shore protection.
Oktay Gyulalyev , the coordinator of civil society "Kura", which protects the rights of the victims of the flood, said that winter has come and the MES must take steps to address long-standing issues.
The court decided to send a request to the MES to clarify the position of the structure on compensation and repair the damage. The next trial will be held in January.
