MP, member of Yeni Azerbaijan Party(YAP) demands to bring order in the Internet
A member of the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan", MP Malahat Ibrahimgizi held a press conference, and again called to control publications in social networks and the Internet in general.
"Lately in the media, online resources, and especially in social networks honor and dignity of citizens is insulted, as well as the statements not compatible with morality are made," she said.
"People are tired of such dishonesty. Every time I'm horrified reading such things. Why do you insult the state attributes.
Our government carries out serious measures to establish democratic values and market economy principles, and those who do not understand anything about human rights, defame honest people. If no action is taken, this process will only increase," she said emphatically. Another MP Elmira Akhundova supported her, and proposed to create the Institute of Information Ombudsman.
"Press Council should be given a broad mandate to take action against the sites, where things like this happen. The Press Council should have the right to close them, and then the issue should be resolved in court. Insults are not allowed," she said. Secretary of the Union of Writers Chingiz Abdullayev reminded the world practice of penalties for offenses.
"You do not have the right to insult others? Everyone on the Internet writes whatever he wants.
When the France insulted the Prophet Muhammad we were told that it was freedom of speech. But then why is introduced a law criminalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide? Is this freedom of speech, it is a double standard. Today, some journalists write that we have no history, no literature. They defame Samad Vurgun, Uzeyir Hajibeyov, and strike a blow to the moral foundations.
If to check, it will be revealed that some sites are created in Azerbaijan by Armenians. But we do not say that someone should be arrested, we say: be responsible," Abdullayev said.
Finally Ibrahimgizi proposed to set up a special monitoring group to oversee the publication on the Internet. "We absolutely do not advocate the elimination of social media. We are against the spread of sayings and thoughts that are contrary to our morality, national values," she said.
The oldest teacher of the Journalism Faculty of the Baku State University Jahangir Mammadli was more careful in his statements and quoted the words of Ilham Aliyev, said at the event dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the Azerbaijani press, "We are living in a transitional period, therefore we should be tolerant to all critical publications in the media; and even to insults," he quoted President Ilham Aliyev.
At the end of the event participants adopted an appeal to the public, where they summarized the ideas expressed at the press conference. -0-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
