NOTHING REMINDS ABOUT COMMISSARS

    Square near Sahil metro station opened on Thursday after reconstruction. Instead of memorial to 26 Baku Commissars there is now a fountain, and new benches. Remaining of 26 Baku commissars who have been in the square since 1920 were taken to the village of Hovsan and buried in the new cemetery. First the construction of underground garage was planned under the square, but then it was decided that it could cause damage to the worked metro. The population, particularly supporters of communist party, was indignant with the reconstruction of the new square, the reburial and liquidation of the memorial to commissars.
