Press Review - January 26, 2018
The process of diversification of the country's economy, the level of health care in the country, the growth of the number of complaints to the European Court are the leading topics of today's press.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the ongoing diversification of the economy, which is a priority for the government of the country. The author writes about large oil projects being implemented by Azerbaijan, about the state support of private entrepreneurship through the Foundation created for these purposes, which has allocated up to 2 billion dollars for farmers over the past 10 years. Further on, the article talks about the opening of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the opening of new jobs, and the construction of new roads.
The website Azadliqinfo.az writes about the outdated method of management and diseases that get younger. The article criticizes the health situation in the country, where thousands of citizens go abroad for treatment. There is a bad tendency - illnesses in the country are getting younger. This is probably due to the lack of preventive measures. Currently, cardiovascular diseases are at the first place on the level of disability. The number of people suffering from mental and oncological diseases has increased. At the same time, there is a rejuvenation of various diseases, which is caused by the difficult social and economic situation in the country.
The Novoye Vremya newspaper published an article on the number of complaints to the European Court from Azerbaijan. In 2017, 679 cases from Azerbaijan arrived in Strasbourg.
On 97 of them decisions have been made, and on 210 - the court has not taken place yet. The government was informed on 168 cases. According to the same report, Azerbaijan is one of the seven countries most frequently applying to the European Court. 4% of all cases that were in execution of the court, come from Azerbaijan.

An Embraer 190/195 aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) on the Baku-Kazan route experienced radio interference and GPRS disruptions while flying over Astrakhan on January 1, according to a source in aviation cited by Turan. The aircraft's avionics resumed normal functioning only after leaving Astrakhan’s airspace.
