Prosecutor proposes to sentence OrhanBakhishly to 7 years in prison
Baku / 13.09.18 / Turan: At the Baku Serious Crimes Court held today in the case ofOrkhanBakhyshli, a youth activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), accused of illegal large-scale drug trafficking, a public prosecutor suggested to sentence him to seven years in prison, Turan was told by Bakhyshli"s mother. She said that her son is accused on false accusations in connection with his political activities.Journalists were not allowed to attend the trialagain.The trial will continue on September 18, at which the final statements of the lawyer and the accused are expected.
Bakhyshli was detained on May 6 and the police allegedly found six gram of heroine with. The activist rejected the accusations and said that the police officers had planted drugs to him.A few days before the arrest, on May 3, at an event on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, at the grave of journalist ElmarHuseynov, Bakhyshli accused the country's authorities ofthe murder of the journalist. His colleagues believe that this was the reason for his arrest. Human rights activists recognized Bakhyshli as a political prisoner. -B06-
