On July 21 has begun the ninth month of the Muslim calendar, Ramazan (Ramadan - Arab.). This month is the most important and honorable for the Muslims.
Ramadan has a sacred, and is part of religion. This is a month of fasting and worship, the month in which the Koran was revealed, the month in which evil forces are chained; month of remission of sins. The fasting is held in order to achieve Allah's pleasure and is intended to increase their piety, temper inner world in the struggle against weaknesses and passions for the next year, to overestimate the value of existing wealth, improve attitude towards the needy and others.
During the whole month from sunrise to sunset, a strict fast (uraza) is observed, which implies a rejection of a water, food and sexual relations during daylight hours.
The last day of the fasting is on August 19. On August 20 comes Fitr holiday marking the end of fasting. On this day tasty food are prepared, and during the festival, family friends and neighbors (regardless of their religion) entertain. Almsgiving is a prerequisite for the celebration. Also during the holidays Muslims visit the graves of relatives.—0—
