Relatives accused of the Tartar case protest
Baku/27.05.19/Turan: On May 27, the Military Prosecutor"s Office of Azerbaijan held a protest action of the parents and relatives of military personnel who were killed and convicted in the Tartar case.
The action participants chanted that the criminal case against their children was unfounded.
"My son was convicted without proof, using torture, and I want to meet with President Ilham Aliyev," said one of the protesters.
"A soldier was subject to violence, and was forced to testify against his commanders, who were then tortured and forced to confess to treason. But none of them was a traitor, "said the other parent.
The action ended without incident.
On May 7, 2017, the Prosecutor General's Office, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Defense and the Interior of Azerbaijan issued a joint statement in which a detained group of military personnel and civilians was accused of spying for the special services of Armenia.
According to the statement, the Intelligence Service of the Armenian Armed Forces has prepared a large-scale provocative action against the units and settlements of the Azerbaijani army in the Tetersky district.
On May 3, the Azerbaijani military prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit under the Article 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code. A joint investigation team was established consisting of prosecutors, the Ministry of Defense, the Interior and State Security Service staff. The detainees were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. During the investigation, at least 8 suspects were killed. Subsequently, in the course of further investigation, 4 of those killed were acquitted, and the investigators who fabricated the charges received up to seven years in prison. -0-
