Representatives of the Ombudsman visited Ilham Amiraslanov
Today representatives of the Ombudsman visited Ilham Amiraslanov, civil activist and resident of the village Askerbeyli in Sabirabad, in a detention facility in the village of Kurdakhani. Amiraslanov was arrested on charges of possession of firearms.
The Ombudsman Office said the meeting with Amiraslonov lasted 1.5 hours.
Following the meeting, the leadership of the jail was asked to provide medical control over the state of Amiraslanov, who claims he was beaten during the detention.
Representatives of the Ombudsman also promised that they would go to the Attorney General to investigate the physical violence against the detainee.
The appeal for a meeting with Amiraslanov was received by the Ombudsman on June 18 on behalf of the Director of Turan Information Agency Mehman Aliyev and the staff coordinator of civil society "Kur" Oktay Gyulalyev.
Amiraslanov, who for two years has actively campaigned for the rights of victims of floods in 2010, was arrested on June 8, three days after taking part in a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov.
The arrest was accompanied by a violation of national and international legislation. From prison, Amiraslanov sent a letter to the prosecutor of the republic, and reported on torture in police custody in order to force a confession of ownership of a pistol and ammunition, which did not really belong to him.
The Headquarters "Kur" was created by non-governmental organizations to protect the rights of citizens affected by flooding in 2010. -0 -

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
