Scandal at the trial in the case of NIDA Movement activists
There was a scandal at the trial in the case of the seven activists of NIDA and a member of the organization "Free Youth", Ilkin Rustamzade, February 27 in the Baku Serious Crimes Court.
The delay of the start of the trial caused the indignation of the relatives of the accused. They clapped their hands, stomped their feet, shouting, "Come, Come!" An hour later, the defendants were taken to the room in handcuffs. The parents of the accused congratulated a defendant, Bakhtiyar Guliyev, on his birthday and began to applaud.
Next, Anar Abbasov, who previously refused to appear in court, spoke as a witness. He confirmed his testimony at the preliminary investigation. Being asked whom of the defendants he knows, he said that man in glasses.
Abbasov said that at the end of January 2013, near the metro station "Icheri Sheher," he saw young people in masks sitting on a bench. They asked him to go to the cafe. "I felt something bad, and went away. Later I heard that these people were detained, I was scared that I will be detained too, and went to give testimonies," said Abbasov.
Further, pointing to the defendant Zaur Gurbanly, he said: "This young man in glasses asked me to come to them when I have free time, to participate in a rally, pour gasoline in bottles and explode them."
The state prosecutor asked him, "explode or set fire?" However, the witness could not give a clear answer.
Defendant Bakhtiyar Guliyev protested, saying: "What a game is it, what witness have you brought here?" The judge demanded silence, threatening the defendant. Then the parents of the accused protested.
Lawyer Elton Guliyev said that the witness did not have an identity card, or protection, and doubts he is Anar Abbasov. The judge asked him for his identification, but the witness presented a certificate of employment of an employee of a construction company of SOCAR.
However, the defendants and their lawyers said giving testimonies without identification is illegal.
The judge Javid Huseynov demanded silence in the court, saying that further meeting will be held without the accused. The trial will continue on 28 February.-16B-
