Siyavush Novruzov: Nakhchivan in blockade!
At today's meeting of the Milli Mejlis, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the ruling party and a member of parliament Siyavush Novruzov, raised the issue of the situation in Nakhchivan. He said that after the closure of the Iranian- Azerbaijani border the delivery to the region of fuel products was seriously hampered, so the situation in the autonomous region of Azerbaijan has become more complicated.
He called on members of parliament to exercise maximum responsibility to resolve this problem. He also called on the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry to take serious steps. In turn, the speaker of the Milli Majlis said that "very serious steps are being made in this direction and the problem will be resolved soon."
Previously the checkpoints were closed on the Iranian side after the incident on 7th November, when
Azerbaijan demanded an explanation as to the cause of the fire on a tractor which was working in the field on the Azerbaijani side. In turn, the Iranian side accused Azerbaijan of unilaterally closing the Shakhtakhti checkpoint.
Currently food and fuel supplies to Nakhchivan which is surrounded on three sides by Armenia pass to Azerbaijan through Iran. -16D-
