Baku/01.05.21/Turan: The nurses attached to the treatment of human rights defender Ogtay Gyulalyev will continue to do their job, said the director of the Turan agency Mehman Aliyev after visiting the human rights activist at his home.

Earlier, on April 26, the activist's son Tabriz Gulalyev told that the nurses refused to come to the human rights defender's home from May 1, since they had been stopped being paid for three months. This message caused a negative reaction from the public, which was expressed in numerous critical posts on social networks.

Apparently, this had an effect and on May 1, the nurses came to the activist's home and said that, "All issues have been resolved” and they would continue to the procedures at home.

Moreover, the Joint Administration of Territorial Medical Units (OUTMP) responded positively to the appeal to send health workers to take blood samples for prescribing further treatment.

Mehman Aliyev also said that the other day, a tracheostomy was removed from Ogtay Gyulalyev's throat, which had been previously installed to remove sputum from the lungs and, in general, to facilitate breathing.

After removing this device, the human rights activist began to breathe even better.

In general, the activist is recovering, consciousness is returning to him. He listens carefully to questions, reacts to them with gestures. He also listens to the news.

Ogtay Gyulalyev is also trying to speak, and the removing the tracheostomy will probably speed up his recovery of speech.

Ogtay Gyulalyev was hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing in the center of Baku on October 29, 2019. He was taken to the hospital, but he was operated on only on October 30 in a private clinic by surgeons of the Republican Neurosurgical Hospital.

On January 25, the Nasimi District Court of Baku sentenced driver Kanan Abdullayev, who caused serious damage to the health of human rights activist Ogtay Gyulalyev, to 2 years 3 months in prison with serving his sentence in a penal colony. The court found him guilty under the Article 263.1.-1 (violation of the rules of the road and the operation of vehicles, which inadvertently entailed serious harm to the health of the injured person) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. In addition, Abdullayev was deprived of his driving license for three years. —06D-
